Our true north at Great Herr is to empower young girls through sport. When we were approached by Adele Bruggeman, founder of ActivateHer on potentially getting involved in her prospering sport non-profit organisation, it was an immediate YES.
With this being said we are proud to bring to you the 10% Difference project in partnership with ActivateHer.
ActivateHer is a sports development organisation in Cape Town, South Africa, founded in January 2018, which provides sporting opportunities and
leadership development for girls and young women. Using the power of
sports, ActivateHer translates what is played on the field or the court into
continued learning about health, wellness, and life skills development.
ActivateHer operates in Khayelitsha, the largest township in the Western Cape, to provide interactive after-school sports, health, and leadership development
programming. Through ActivateHer’s exposure to sports, girls
are able to learn in a safe and positive environment about working with a
team, the values of communication, and how to be a leader for their schools
and communities.
ActivateHer currently hosts three sports programmes: the pre-primary
MoveHer Programme (girls 3-7), the primary school PlayHer Programme
(girls 8-12), and the high school LeadHer Programme (girls 13-18). Each
programme runs on a weekly basis from January to December.
The MoveHer Programme for girls primarily focuses on exposing girls to yoga, gymnastics, song and dance to explore their bodies abilities through motor skills development, strength development and balance coordination. The intermediate phase PlayHer Programme introduces girls to a range of sports through a multi-sport focused curriculum. The senior phase LeadHer Programme provides an after school and weekend space for girls to access holistic health education and interact with positive female role models, learning how to lead healthy lifestyles as young women, through both education and sports development.
